Apartment for a Bridal Party in Lagos: Planning Guide

Where to Stay While Getting Ready for a Wedding: Apartments for Bridal Parties
Can you use an apartment for a bridal party in Lagos? Often yes, but only if the host agrees. Choose a place with enough bathrooms and open space for hair, makeup and photographs, check that the guest limit and house rules cover your makeup artist, photographers and family, ask for written permission in the Dwelns message thread before you pay, and book the night before so you are not waiting for check-in on the wedding morning.
Before you book a "nice place" for the bridal party, picture the room at 7 a.m. on the wedding day. A bride, five bridesmaids, a makeup artist with two assistants, a photographer, a videographer, an aunt with the wedding cake order and a rail of dresses. A hotel room was never built for that. A good apartment can be, but only if you check a few things before you pay.
What a bridal-party apartment needs
| What you need | Why it matters | Ask the host |
|---|---|---|
| Bedrooms and bathrooms | Several people washing and dressing at once | How many bathrooms work, and is there hot water? |
| Open space | Makeup chairs, mirrors and a dress rail | Which room is the biggest? Can I see it in a photo? |
| Natural light | Makeup and photographs look better in daylight | Can you send daytime photos of that room? |
| Power | Hair tools and lights draw more than a phone charger | What does the backup run, and for how long? |
| Arrival time | Getting ready starts early | Can we check in the night before, or early that morning? |
| Visitors | The party is bigger than the booking | How many people are allowed during the day? |
| Photography | Cameras, lights and crews are not always welcome | Is a professional photographer or videographer allowed? |
| Venue distance | Dresses, traffic and a tight schedule | Which area is it in, and how long to the venue? |
Bedrooms and bathrooms: count people twice
Count who will sleep there, then count who will be there during the day. A bridal party of six may sleep in three bedrooms, then double in size at 8 a.m. when the makeup artist, photographer and family arrive. Bathrooms matter as much as bedrooms. Look for at least one bathroom for every two or three people who need to be ready at the same time.
Very large groups have fewer choices. At the time of writing (October 2026), the Lagos listings we checked allowed between 6 and 12 guests, and only two allowed more than 8. Stay within the guest count shown on the listing, and ask the host whether day visitors count towards it. Do not assume either way.
Natural light and power: ask before you book
None of the listings we checked describe how much natural light a room gets, so do not assume it. Ask the host for daytime photos of the room you plan to use, showing the windows, and ask whether it has a large mirror and curtains or blinds you can adjust.
Power matters just as much. Listings may show a generator, an inverter or 24-hour electricity, but do not assume uninterrupted grid power. Hair dryers, curlers and lights are heavy loads, so ask what the backup can run, for how many hours, and where the sockets are.
Arrival times: book the night before
Check-in times are often not listed on a listing. One listing we checked states check-in from 2:00 p.m. and check-out by 12:00 p.m., which would not work for a 6 a.m. makeup call. Ask for the check-in window and request access the evening before, so the dresses, kits and people are in place before the wedding morning. A two-night booking (the night before and the wedding night) also satisfies the 2-night minimum on several listings, and gives you somewhere to return to and pack calmly. If your flight lands the night before, our airport guide explains how to plan the transfer.
Visitor policies and photography: get it in writing
On Dwelns, each host sets their own rules on events and extra visitors. There is no platform-wide rule. Our responsible hosting page is the place to start, and the host's house rules are the final word. These rules vary: one Lekki listing we checked says "strictly no partying or get-togethers", while another describes itself as suited to staycations and parties.
Photography follows the same logic. Our guide to hourly shortlets in Lagos notes that some hosts do not allow commercial shoots. Whether you are bringing a photographer, a videographer, lights or stands, ask first.
Send the host a short message through Dwelns that covers:
- How many people will be there, and the times they arrive and leave
- Who they are: bridesmaids, family, makeup artists, photographer, videographer
- Whether you will use lights, stands or props
- Whether the photos are personal or part of a paid commercial shoot
- That you are asking for written permission before you pay
Keep this conversation on the platform, so your booking stays protected.
Proximity to the wedding venue
Dwelns cannot know your venue, so work it out yourself. Put the apartment's area and your venue into a map app, set your departure to the real wedding-morning hour, and read the typical-traffic range. Then add a buffer, because a party in dresses and heels does not move quickly. The exact address is shared once your booking is confirmed, so use the area name on the listing, and ask the host to confirm the route and any estate gate procedures.
What it costs per person
Here is the maths for two nights (the night before and the wedding night), divided by the listing's guest limit. These figures exclude any service fee, caution fee or deposit, so check your total at checkout.
| Listing | Nightly rate | Two nights | Guest limit | Per person |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oral Estate 3-bed | ₦180,000 | ₦360,000 | 6 | ₦60,000 |
| Applewood 3-bed | ₦190,000 | ₦380,000 | 7 | about ₦54,300 |
| Ikota 4-bed | ₦195,000 | ₦390,000 | 8 | ₦48,750 |
| Alimosho 4-bed | ₦200,000 | ₦400,000 | 10 | ₦40,000 |

Other things a bridal party can book
If you only need the space for a few hours, such as a getting-ready morning while the rest of the party stays elsewhere, check the "Per hour" view on Lagos listings. Hourly availability, minimum blocks and prices are set by each host, so message the host to confirm.
Dwelns also has service categories for makeup artists, photographers and private chefs. Availability varies, so check what is listed for your date. Service bookings are priced and paid in naira only. If bridesmaids are flying in, our guide to booking a shortlet from abroad and paying in USD, GBP or EUR explains how foreign cards work.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use an apartment to get ready for a wedding in Lagos?
Often yes, but it depends on the host. Rules on visitors and events are set listing by listing, so ask for written permission in the Dwelns message thread before you pay.
How many bedrooms do I need for a bridal party?
Count the people who will sleep there, then the people who will be there during the day. Bathrooms matter as much as bedrooms, so check how many each listing has.
Are makeup artists and photographers allowed in a shortlet?
That is the host's decision. Some hosts do not allow commercial shoots, so tell the host who is coming, how many people, whether they will use lights or stands, and whether the shoot is personal or commercial.
Does the guest limit include my makeup artist and photographer?
Do not assume either way. Stay within the guest count on the listing and ask the host whether day visitors are included.
When should I check in for a wedding morning?
Aim for the evening before. Check-in times vary, and one listing we checked starts at 2:00 p.m., which is too late for an early makeup call. Ask the host about early access.
Can I book an apartment for only a few hours?
Some hosts offer hourly stays, set by each host. Use the "Per hour" view on Lagos listings and confirm availability with the host.
What if the wedding date changes?
Check the cancellation tier before you pay. Flexible and Moderate tiers give more room than Strict, and the Dwelns service fee is non-refundable when a guest cancels. See the cancellation policy.
Final thoughts
The right apartment for a bridal party is not just the prettiest one. It has enough bathrooms, open space and power, a host who has agreed in writing to your visitors and photographers, and a check-in that fits your wedding morning.
